Job Summary
Train, coach, and develop Welding Technicians to ensure safe, consistent, and code-compliant welding practices at the Steele, Alabama utility pole manufacturing plant. Provide hands-on and classroom instruction using approved procedures while demonstrating proper techniques, joint preparation, and equipment setup. Evaluate weld quality, provide corrective feedback, and support qualification, certification, and re-certification testing. Mentor technicians to improve skill levels and reinforce standardized practices across pole school locations. Promote and enforce safe welding practices and PPE requirements while ensuring training aligns with applicable codes and specifications. Drive weld quality improvements and throughput.
Required Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/air carbon arc, and layout/fit-up experience
- experience training and testing welding candidates
- experience in the utility structure industry
- Able to effectively present classroom training and hands-on welding application training
- Proficient in conducting AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests and generating welder qualification records
- Proficient in using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
- Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
- Possess written and oral communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Desired Qualifications
- Welding-related associate degree
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE)
- Bilingual (Spanish)
