Job Summary
Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) while ensuring compliance with AWS, ASME, and customer standards. Provide technical guidance for welding operations, analyze defects through root cause investigations, and support new product introduction by evaluating weld designs and joint configurations. Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to optimize weldments for manufacturability, coordinate welder certifications, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor welding performance metrics, review engineering drawings, and assist with inspection planning to drive quality and safety objectives across the shop floor.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in welding engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related fabrication environment
- Experience developing and qualifying WPSs and PQRs
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting structural steel, sheet metal, pressure-containing components, or industrial fabrication
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience in a manufacturing environment involving custom-engineered products
- Familiarity with welding automation, robotics, or advanced fabrication technologies
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) or equivalent certification
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
