Job Summary
Welding Assistant in the Aluminum Welding Department performs as an individual contributor, assisting welders by preparing components and operating welding equipment to join metal and aluminum parts according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders. Responsibilities include preparing components for welding, using plasma to burn holes, determining needed parts, reading shop copies and drawings within tolerances, ensuring proper PPE use, maintaining and operating welding equipment and fixtures safely, reading labor forms and blueprints, and contributing to a safe, productive work environment. The role requires basic math, ability to read blueprints, teamwork, and compliance with safety and quality standards. In-house welding training is provided, with 2nd shift hours (2:45 pm–12:45 pm) and starting pay from $23.15 to $26.05 per hour. The position reports to the Shift Lead and involves collaboration with coworkers to meet production, safety, and quality goals. Minimum qualifications include 1 year of manufacturing experience, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, forklift certification, and High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year manufacturing experience
- The ability to calculate simple mathematics
- Read blue prints and understand shop drawings
- Ability to use tape measure
- Read and decipher blue prints and work orders
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow facility safety regulations
- Valmont trained and certified in operation of forklift
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with most frequent lift up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
- Ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced environment
- Read and complete labor reporting system, standard shop forms, and blueprints
- Basic working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook or similar email software
- The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
- The ability to set up, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
