Weld metal components using hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc processes. Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt parts to achieve required configurations. Ignite torches, start power supplies, and strike arcs while monitoring fitting, burning, and welding to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion. Detect faulty equipment or defective materials, notify supervisors, and examine work pieces for defects using straightedges or templates. Lay out, position, align, and secure assemblies prior to welding with precision tools.
