Job Summary
Fabricate, assemble, repair, and maintain heavy transport equipment and fabricated steel components in accordance with engineering specifications and Australian Standards. Bring equipment into the workshop for fabrication or modification, interpret blueprints and cut lists, and plan projects to ensure efficient production outcomes. Prepare, measure, cut, and align metal sections using hand tools and machinery, then perform MIG, TIG, and arc welding to manufacture, assemble, and modify trailers and structural steel. Inspect completed welds for quality and compliance, finish products by grinding and polishing, and operate workshop equipment while maintaining a safe, clean environment. Work collaboratively with the team to meet production schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Trade qualification as a Welder (First Class), Engineering Tradesperson (Fabrication), or equivalent recognised qualification
- Minimum 2 years' post-trade experience as a Welder (First Class) or in a similar fabrication role
- Experience manufacturing, repairing and modifying heavy machinery, trailers, transport equipment or structural steel
- Proven ability to work from engineering drawings and cut lists to produce accurate, high-quality fabrication work
- Experience operating workshop fabrication equipment and working in a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to consistently deliver quality work while meeting production deadlines and company standards
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG and arc welding techniques
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications
- Strong fabrication, metalworking and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with a commitment to producing quality workmanship
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise fabrication tasks effectively
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety and safe work practices
