Job Summary
Conduct welding, cutting, grinding, and metal fabrication on ongoing or new construction projects. Rig cable for lifting objects and handle placement of steel plates using cranes, winches, and hand tools. Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate repair parts. Inspect welding equipment, perform minor repairs, and notify the Foreman of needed parts. Select and manage materials and supplies to complete assigned tasks. Collaborate with the Superintendent, Foreman, Crane Operators, and other skilled crafts persons to ensure safe and efficient project completion. Adhere to safety and environmental initiatives for State/Federal compliance. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including face shields, respirators, and PPE. Perform physical tasks involving standing, climbing, lifting 50 lb. objects, and working at elevated heights.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years welding experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary welding skills, knowledge and abilities
- Good knowledge of the practices and materials of the welding trade
- Good knowledge of the physical characteristics of various types of metal used in the construction
- Good knowledge of the operation of various types of equipment and devices
- Good knowledge of the importance of safe work practices in a marine environment
- Capability of passing standard welding tests that demonstrate proficiency to perform the job
- Skill in the operation of acetylene and arc welding equipment
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools
- Skill in the operation of welding blueprints and sketches
- Ability to be an effective verbal communicator
- Ability to keep simple records of time and material used for each project
- Capability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other protective equipment as required
- Capability to wear welding face shields, personal flotation devices, respirators
- Capability to stand, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time
- Capability to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance work
- Capability to climb vertical ladders
- Capability to work at elevated heights
- Capability to lift 50 lb. objects as required
- Capability to carry 25 lb. objects as required
- Capability to adapt to extreme temperature changes
- Capability to adapt to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure
- Capability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by the circumstances of the incident
