Job Summary
Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc., and performs welded repairs using air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment. Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars, maintains a neat work area, and follows safety procedures. Requires ability to work in an industrial railcar repair environment with physically demanding conditions and ability to work various shifts including overtime.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass welding test as prescribed by the company
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly documents
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to work any shift, including overtime, as permitted by the union contract
- Dependable attendance and reliability
