Job Summary
Read and interpret isometric drawings, blueprints, and product specifications to plan pipe system layouts, installations, and repairs. Cut, thread, hammer, and assemble pipes, fittings, and equipment using welding, brazing, and threading techniques while selecting appropriate materials and supports. Inspect installed systems using pressure gauges and hydrostatic testing, remove worn components, and operate pumps for water removal. Supervise 1 to 5 pipe fitter helpers by interviewing, hiring, training, and directing work in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Prepare cost estimates and manage projects within budget while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to three years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Computer skills are not required for this position
- Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required
- For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English
- It may be necessary to travel or commute for this position
