Job Summary
Welder I at Vermeer will complete weldments in various positions according to blueprints and welding procedures, prepare, position and align components using fixtures, operate an oxyfuel cutting torch, read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols with precision, access digital drawings via computer systems, identify welding defects and participate in root cause analysis, and support 5S and continuous improvement in a safety-focused, collaborative environment. The role requires entry-level welding experience or formal training and completion of Vermeer’s Weld Training Program with AWS GMAW-P certification to the D14.0 standard, with willingness to qualify in FCAW for additional positions. Travel is not expected. The position is based in Des Moines, IA, onsite at Vermeer campus, with a shift classified as third shift and an hourly wage range of $26.16-$30.24. aka D14.0 welding standard, blueprints, welding symbols, GMAW-P, FCAW, AWS, and related quality/safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- Entry-level welding experience or formal training (technical school, apprenticeship, or equivalent) preferred
- Ability to successfully complete Vermeer’s Weld Training Program, including AWS GMAW-P certification to the D14.0 standard with qualification in the flat (1G-UL) position, and willingness to learn and qualify in Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) for vertical fillet (3F) and overhead fillet (4F) positions
- Ability to read blueprints, interpret welding symbols, and apply decimal-based measurements for precision and quality
- Ability to access and interpret digital work instructions and drawings using computer systems
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify welding defects, participate in root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions
- Ability to adapt, assess situations quickly, and carry out appropriate actions to maintain safety, quality, and productivity
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments
