Job Summary
Welder role at Navantia UK performing manual or machine welding of fillet and butt welds on structural or fabricated parts, across naval, marine, and repair sectors. Responsibilities include reading weld symbols on fabrication drawings, understanding and applying weld procedures (WPSs), setting up equipment and LEV systems, performing flat and positional welding, inspecting welds for defects, grinding weld profiles, and operating automated welding equipment as qualified. Requires current Fillet Welding and GSFCAW Butt Welding qualifications (ISO9606-1), strong safety discipline, ability to work independently and with others, and flexibility to work overtime. Full-time, permanent position with benefits; BPSS security clearance process noted. Salary £18.55 per hour; holiday allowance and pension/health options listed.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a current and valid Fillet Welding Qualification Certificate (ISO9606-1)
- Possession of a current and valid GSFCAW Butt Welding Qualification Certificate (ISO9606-1)
- Demonstrable experience of heavy steel plate welding processes (preferably with apprenticeship or equivalent)
- Ability to read and interpret weld symbols on fabrication drawings
- Understanding of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and essential variables
- Ability to set up equipment and welding LEV systems, gas hoses and cables
- Ability to work to WPSs and maintain quality
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Commitment to safety and compliance with safety procedures
