Job Summary
Lead role coordinating shop floor welding operations, mentoring welders, interpreting complex drawings and weld symbols, and ensuring fabrication quality and on-time delivery. Responsibilities include leading day-to-day welding activities, coordinating with fitters/fabricators/machine operators, inspecting welds for dimensional accuracy, ensuring proper joint preparation and alignment, monitoring production timelines, training welders on techniques and safety, troubleshooting welding challenges, enforcing shop safety protocols, and supporting lean fabrication efforts. Requires heavy welding experience with steel, ability to read blueprints/BOMs, and strong collaboration with supervisors, engineering, and QA teams.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Welding certification or trade school training preferred
- 5 years exp. of heavy welding experience in a metal fabrication or structural steel environment
- 2 years exp. of leadership or lead welder experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes including cutting, forming, fitting, and assembly
- Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings and blueprints
