Job Summary
Grind barge and boat repair areas, cargo tanks, and internal compartments to prepare surfaces for welding. Execute full penetration welds on specialty components, internal compartments, and external surfaces using welding machines, grinders, and cutting torches as directed by a foreman or supervisor. Operate vacuum pumps, air pumps, compressors, and blowers to complete welding and maintenance tasks while removing high spots and cutting bevels. Consult with supervisors regarding installation problems, repair sequences, and time requirements. Maintain a safe working environment in harsh conditions including heat, cold, rain, and ice, while working inside confined spaces and at heights. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum five years of shipyard experience required.

- Proficient in safety equipment usage and able to qualify use of safety equipment

- Equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills
- The ability to effectively speak clearly so others can understand
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a shipyard environment
- Ability to work in harsh environments such as heat, cold, rain, ice, etc. inside and outside
- Able to work inside confined spaces, heights, and operate equipment safely
- The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members
