Job Summary
Measure, cut, thread, and weld pipes for HVAC systems while laying out full-scale drawings from blueprints. Attach pipes to structures using hangers, brackets, and welding equipment, then inspect installed systems using pressure gauges and hydrostatic testing to detect leaks. Hang steel supports, install underground piping, and use specialized techniques for computer-assisted welding and microchip fabrication piping. Occasionally direct a small group of laborers and teach trade skills to less experienced workers. Base hourly range of $23/hr - $34/hr. Requires 5-8 years of pipefitting experience, welding certifications, and ability to work nights and overtime. Valid driver's license required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school, vocational school, or training equivalent.
- 5-8 years of related experience in pipefitting work on a variety of installations.
- Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions under limited supervision.
- Must be construction-document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, tools, and equipment employed in the joining, jointing, cutting, bending, threading of all types of HVAC piping and mechanical trades.
- General knowledge of the hazards of the trade and necessary precautionary measures.
- Willingness and ability to work nights and overtime on an as-needed basis.
- Capacity to leverage leadership skills to facilitate learning, teamwork, and collaborative relationships.
- Welding Certifications (A6G, carbon steel pipe, etc.).
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs frequently
- Must be able to lift 10 lbs constantly
- Must be available for travel up to 15%
Desired Qualifications
- Rigging and Signaling Certification.
- Forklift Certification.
- Aerial and Scissor Lift Certification.
- Completed OSHA 30-Hour Training.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
