Job Summary
Welder II needed for Continental Tide Defense Systems in Norfolk, VA to perform ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team projects. Responsibilities include joining, fabricating, and repairing metal; welding pipes, structures, and fittings for shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic, and water systems; fabricating fixtures and jigs; interpreting blueprints/specifications; selecting welding processes, filler materials, and heat ranges; inspecting welds to NAVSEA, ABS & AWS standards; installing or repairing equipment such as pipes, valves, floors, and tank linings; leading technical project teams, scheduling, reporting, and briefing customers and senior management. Requires experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, ship fitting, and oxy-acetylene cutting; ability to weld various materials in horizontal, overhead, and vertical positions; high school/trade degree and 5-10 years of related experience; SECRET clearance eligibility; travel; physically capable of lifting 30 lbs and working in ships/shipyards/ confined spaces.
Required Qualifications
- High school, trade or vocational school degree
- 5-10 years direct experience in ship repair and HM&E systems installation
- Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings and NAVSEA standard items (preferred)
- Must have or be able to obtain SECRET clearance
- Must have base access and security credentials
- Ability to lift at least 30 lbs and work in ladders, extreme temperatures, aboard ships, shipyards, confined spaces
- Welding experience in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW; ship fitting; oxy-acetylene cutting
- Ability to weld multiple pipe/plate sizes in various positions
- Able to select appropriate welding processes, filler materials, joints, and heat ranges
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality; ability to report to work on time
- Possess basic and some advanced welder's tools
- Travel may be required; US citizenship required for most positions
