Job Summary
WELDER I role performing welding functions under supervision, familiar with gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and using various equipment. Responsibilities include following blueprints and machine drawings, wiring and connecting welding units, guiding the weld gun along weld lines to achieve specified fusion and bead depth, welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, inspecting welds for bead size and defects, repairing parts, positioning and clamping workpieces, tacking assemblies, cleaning welds, performing daily equipment maintenance, and moving parts as needed. Requires completion of a welding diploma program or equivalent (two-year college/technical school) or 6 months to 1 year related experience, and skills such as reading blueprints, measuring with tape measures/calipers, and basic shop math; fosters problem solving, teamwork, time management, adaptability, and effective communication in a manufacturing/welding environment.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of welding diploma program or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints with assistance from Welder II and/or Senior Welder.
- Must be able to read a tape measure and calipers.
- Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
- Must be able to identify and measure material.
