Job Summary
Grind barge, boat repair areas, internal compartments, and cargo tanks; weld barge and boat repair areas, internal compartments, cargo tanks, and specialty components with required passes for full penetration; operate welding, grinding, blower, and hose equipment to assist with weld and repair duties; secure parts in position for welding and manage finish products. Move workpieces, tools, and supplies manually or by hand. Assist foremen and supervisors with setup and other assigned tasks. Pass a welding test for internal skill classification and undergo required training programs. Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and safety compliance while wearing appropriate PPE. Work varying shifts including day and night rotations, with overtime built into the schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Must pass a welding test to obtain internal skill classification
- Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol tests during employment
- Must be able to communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor
- Able to work without contact lenses
- Required to arrive to work on time and also work overtime hours as required
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours
- Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions
- Available to work shifts and extended hours
- Understand general policies and procedures as described in the quality & environmental manuals
- Required to undergo a training program and participate in refresher training as needed
- Must have or be eligible for a TWIC card
- Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit areas where it is required
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation
- Must be able to climb, crawl, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters
- Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work
- Must be able to climb stairs and/or vertical ladders of varying heights
- Must be able to work in confined work areas and/or elevated heights
- Must be able to lift objects of a minimum of 10lbs, with a maximum single-person lift limit of 50lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying
- Must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration
- Must be able to visually inspect equipment and verify information, often in small print
- Must be able to drive and/or operate heavy machinery safely and be always alert and aware of surroundings
- Must be able to apply sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware
- Must observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities as outlined in workplace safety training
- Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality
