Job Summary
Welder/Fabricator 5 in the Fabrication department responsible for aluminum welding and fabrication of high-performance boats for military and first responders. Use welding and related tools to join metal components, grind and remove spatter, and ensure welds meet quality standards in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Tasks include clamp/tack-weld, fit-up, operate gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and plasma arc processes, and monitor for overheating, distortion, or warping. Lead the assigned area, mentor less experienced welders, coordinate daily workflow, uphold safety practices, and resolve quality issues. Requires strong reading of blueprints/weld symbols, problem-solving in complex builds, and the ability to work with various SAFE Boats products while maintaining production timelines. Previous leadership experience and ability to pass a welding skill test are required. Prolonged exposure to a manufacturing environment, use of production machinery, and adherence to SBI safety policies are essential.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in aluminum boat building or similar industry
- 5+ years Aluminum experience (GMAW/MIG)
- 3+ years with SAFE Boats International as level 4 or higher Welder/Fabricator
- 2+ years in leadership role or capacity in aluminum boat building
