Job Summary
Welder on 3rd shift responsible for fabricating and welding to engineering drawings, reading AWS weld symbols, and qualifying in GMAW, FCAW, and positions 2F/2G, 3F/3G, 4F/4G as required. Welds per standard work sequence, uses oxy-propane flame straightening/cutting, and handles rigging/craning for movement of weldments. Participates in Caterpillar Production System activities (5S, kaizen). Must be able to read/interp blueprints, interpret weld symbols, and pass welder qualification during Caterpillar training (CWE/CWI or approved personnel). Requires minimum 12 months welding experience or a welding certification, ability to lift up to 35 lbs and perform job tasks in variable indoor/outdoor environmental conditions, and shift work (3rd shift) with overtime as needed. This is a full-time position with benefits; relocation assistance is not offered. Qualified applicants of any age are encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 months of welding experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment or possess a welding certification from an accredited college or institution
- Intermediate level proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and layout weld stations to produce defect-free work
- Basic understanding of safety requirements in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and communicate effectively both oral and written
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with hand tools and measurement devices
- Intermediate knowledge of blueprint/engineering drawings
- Basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and metric measurements
- Ability to pass welder qualification requirements during Caterpillar training by CWE/CWI or approved personnel
