Job Summary

Lay out, fit, and weld fabricated cast and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts according to specifications. Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions; set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding techniques. Inspect welds for bead size and specification adherence; examine grooves, angles, and gaps with micrometer and caliper; read and interpret blueprints. Work with minimal supervision and operate in a heavy industrial shipyard environment. Must have carbon arc cutting experience with butt seams and meet ABS welding test requirements. Able to work night shifts and comply with safety, quality, and environmental regulations; perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence
  • 1-3 years experience as a flux core arc welder
  • Experience with gouging, mirror welding, MIG and stick welding
  • Knowledge of materials and welding techniques for steel and other materials
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints; use precision measuring tools (micrometer, caliper)
  • Knowledge of ship terminology; safety OSHA and ABS regulations
  • Ability to pass ABS welding tests and maintain certification
  • Ability to work night shifts and in a very active, physically demanding environment
  • Maintain safety, quality, and environmental regulations
