Job Summary
Operate the agency box truck to safely transport donated furniture and household items to designated locations, assisting with loading, unloading, securing, and staging apartments while following proper lifting and safety procedures. Support volunteers during delivery days and apartment setup activities, ensuring items are handled with care to prevent damage. Conduct basic pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintain truck cleanliness and fuel levels, and complete delivery logs and mileage records accurately. Work primarily on Thursdays and Fridays for approximately 4-10 hours per week, providing courteous interactions with volunteers, donors, and community partners while representing Safe Haven's mission of serving families experiencing homelessness.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Must be insurable under Safe Haven's vehicle insurance policy
- Ability to safely operate a box truck
- Strong commitment to safety and following established procedures
- Ability to communicate professionally with volunteers, staff, donors, and clients
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to adapt to changing delivery schedules and priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions
- Commitment to supporting Safe Haven's mission of serving families experiencing homelessness
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, and climb stairs as needed during deliveries
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance
- Ability to load, unload, and move furniture and household items using proper lifting techniques
- Ability to enter and exit a box truck multiple times during deliveries
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience driving a box truck, cargo van, or other commercial-sized vehicle preferred
- Experience with deliveries, moving, warehouse operations, or logistics is preferred but not required
