Job Summary
Plan, organize, and conduct regular practice sessions while developing and implementing game strategies and tactics. Teach fundamental skills, techniques, and sports rules to student-athletes, then supervise them during practices, games, and school-sponsored trips. Monitor academic progress to support students in balancing athletics and academics, while promoting discipline, responsibility, and good sportsmanship. Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic regulations, manage team equipment and uniforms, and collaborate with the athletic director on scheduling, budget, and facility use. Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, provide mentorship on personal development and college opportunities, and enforce all school policies and codes of conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience at the high school or competitive youth level
- Valid Florida teaching certificate or valid Department of Education athletic coaching certificate
- Valid FHSAA certification
- Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications
- Valid Florida Driver's License
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school breaks as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Head coaching experience in the assigned or a closely related sport at the high school level
- Experience mentoring youth and fostering a positive team culture
- Familiarity with academic eligibility requirements for student-athletes
- Knowledge of the sport's rules, techniques, and safety practices
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to collaborate with school staff, parents, and community partners
