Job Summary
Plan, direct, and implement activity therapy programs as a component of the patient's treatment plan. Complete activity assessments through observation and interviews to determine needs, skills, and limitations for developing treatment goals. Facilitate and lead sessions in therapeutic leisure skills, education, and awareness, instructing patients in sports, dance, music, art, and relaxation techniques. Engage patients in exercise, games, and community outings while helping them learn social skills for independence. Modify activities to suit specific group needs and resolve complaints when patient requirements are unmet, always prioritizing patient safety. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, three years of healthcare recreation experience, and CTRS or specialty certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field
- Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification
- certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
- clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification
