Job Summary
Conduct daily patrolling of roadways, medians, signs, and bridges to identify hazards and deficiencies, reporting findings to the Patrol Supervisor. Perform shift supervisor duties during winter maintenance, organizing work activities, arranging equipment and labor, and overseeing operations to ensure safety compliance and value for money. Provide leadership and training to junior staff on safety techniques, inspect contract staff work for compliance, and advise on traffic control and work performance. Manage administrative records including equipment hours, material usage, and injury reports while liaising with property owners, the public, and government ministries to maintain relations and ensure regulatory compliance. Respond to emergency circumstances such as accidents or inclement weather and occasionally operate patrol equipment or perform laboring tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's License
- MTO Operator's Permit
- acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of summer and winter maintenance operations
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs
- Ability to prepare and maintain neat accurate records
- Ability to use software packages for word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail and critical path scheduling applications
- Ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks
- Ability to communicate safety instructions with co-workers
- Ability to think clearly and focus on your safety in your immediate surroundings, while using tools and equipment, while driving or operating equipment
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to your job
- High School Diploma (Required)
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industry repair, maintenance or landscaping (outdoor work) (Preferred)
