Job Summary
Remove snow and ice using snow removal or sanding equipment, and maintain highway surfaces including signs, guardrails, lighting, and striping. Operate vehicles and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, and sweepers for right-of-way maintenance, repair slopes, and control vegetation. Set up and remove traffic control devices, transport crew and equipment to work sites, and respond to emergency rotations for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This seasonal role requires a valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and three years of related construction or road maintenance experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, maintenance or landscaping (outdoor work)
- Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- Successful completion of training in traffic control methods
- Successful completion of training in first aid
- Successful completion of training in transportation of dangerous goods
- Successful completion of training in WHMIS
- Successful completion of training in job related aspects of Occupational Health
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks
- Ability to communicate with co-workers' safety instructions
- Ability to think clearly and focus on safety in immediate surroundings while using tools, equipment, driving, or operating equipment
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to your job
- Ability to effectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
- Ability to consistently follow all policies and procedures
- Ability to understand instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work in an environment in which demands and priorities change rapidly
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
- Skilled in the use of traffic control devices
- Skilled in the use of mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers and other types of equipment used for surface and right of way maintenance and repair
- Must be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
