Job Summary
Conduct daily patrols of roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, bridges, and tunnels to identify and report hazards or deficiencies. Assist the Patrol Supervisor in organizing work activities, arranging equipment and materials, and overseeing operations to ensure safety compliance and value for money. Provide leadership and safety training to junior staff, inspect contract staff performance, and advise on traffic control and work planning. Perform administrative duties by maintaining records of equipment usage, material consumption, and incident reports, while liaising with property owners, government ministries, and the public. Respond to emergency circumstances such as accidents or inclement weather, occasionally operate patrol equipment, and carry out necessary laboring tasks.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's License
- MTO Operator's Permit
- acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of summer and winter maintenance operations
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it relates to maintenance activities
- Working knowledge of maintenance and maintenance related construction contracts and agreements
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs
- Ability to prepare and maintain neat accurate records
- Good investigative/analytical skills
- Ability to use software packages for word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail and critical path scheduling applications
- Ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks
- Ability to communicate safety instructions with co-workers
- Ability to think clearly and focus on your safety in your immediate surroundings, while using tools and equipment, while driving or operating equipment
- Highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability
- Ability to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to your job
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industry repair, maintenance or landscaping (outdoor work)
