Job Summary

Assist students with disabilities in activities of daily living, including dressing, eating, and managing bathroom needs, while operating medical equipment like Hoyer lifts and motorized wheelchairs. Support wheelchair users in accessing school settings and safely transport students on and off buses. Provide 1:1 guidance during academic and non-academic activities under the classroom teacher's direction, assist with IEP and 504 plan tasks, and accompany students on field trips. Clean classroom equipment and supplies routinely. Work a 10-month schedule, 40 hours per week when full time, supporting the district's mission for inclusive learning environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Eligibility for a Wisconsin DPI-issued Special Education Educational Assistant license
  • Certified Nursing Assistant license
  • One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Meeting Title One ParaProfessional Highly Qualified Requirements
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Pro-Act Certification
  • Ability to work effectively with students with mild to severe physical, emotional, or cognitive needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to district guidelines
  • Patience, empathy, and professionalism in managing challenging student behaviors
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Self-directed capability
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle numerous responsibilities with varying deadlines
  • Ability to lift or assist in lifting students with disabilities
  • Ability to operate medical equipment such as Hoyer lifts, standing frames, or motorized wheelchairs
  • Ability to operate passenger elevators
  • Ability to support wheelchair users in accessing school and community settings
  • Ability to assist students with disabilities in safely getting on and off buses
  • Ability to work in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Ability to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another
  • Ability to perform frequent repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Ability to move objects up to 20-60 pounds
