Job Summary
Assist students with disabilities in activities of daily living, including dressing, eating, and managing bathroom needs. Lift or assist students for position changes, operate medical equipment like Hoyer lifts, and support wheelchair users in navigating school buildings and buses. Provide academic and non-academic support under teacher guidance, assist with IEP and 504 plans, and accompany students on field trips. Clean classroom equipment and supplies routinely. This 10-month, non-exempt part-time or full-time role supports the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District's mission of equitable, inclusive learning environments.
Required Qualifications
- Eligible for a Wisconsin DPI-issued Special Education Educational Assistant license
- Certified Nursing Assistant license
- One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Meet Title One ParaProfessional Highly Qualified Requirements
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Pro-Act Certification
- Ability to work effectively with students with mild to severe physical, emotional, or cognitive needs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to district guidelines
- Patience, empathy, and professionalism in managing challenging student behaviors
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Self-directed
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Ability to juggle numerous responsibilities with varying deadlines
- Must be able to lift 20-60 pounds
