Job Summary

Plan, develop, schedule, and manage all Aquatics programs, including preparing pool schedules and evaluating delivery quality against mission and budget goals. Supervise department employees and volunteers, conduct periodic staff meetings, and develop training plans while ensuring compliance with state and local health codes. Serve as a lead instructor and lifeguard during swim lessons, assist with facility maintenance, and maintain accurate documentation. Monitor participant data to revise programs and respond to community feedback. This role supports the Stevens Point Area YMCA's charitable mission by fostering community engagement and delivering high-quality aquatic services.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field
  • Blood Borne Pathogens Training within 30 days of employment
  • Current Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor Certifications
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and other basic computer functions
  • Supervisory experience and skills
  • Administrative skills
  • Teaching experience, preferably in Aquatics
  • Experience with recruitment and management of staff
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general and technical business communications
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, marketing materials and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries at an individual or group level
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, members, participants, parents and volunteers
  • Ability to accurately calculate cost/benefit analysis
  • Ability to process timesheets, including work hour calculations
  • Ability to solve practical problems, while considering various impacting factors
  • Ability to interpret instructions in variety of written or oral formats
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage tasks with limited supervision
  • Ability to cooperatively balance department and organizational goals
  • Ability to perform in leadership capacity
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment
  • Ability to make good, sound decisions and take decisive action when called to do so

  • Must be able to easily move through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively interact with customers
  • Must be able to lift, carry and load equipment, furnishings, and program supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Must be comfortable and able to work with program participants while swimming
  • Must be able to perform physical functions necessary to program instruction, including but not limited to squatting, bending, kneeling, spotting program participants and demonstrating use of program equipment or program skills
  • Must be on deck prepared to enter the water during all assigned scheduled swim lessons, and serve as lifeguard, swim instructor, when required

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional desired certifications: Aquatics Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Training Instructor, YMCA Principles of Aquatics Leadership, YMCA Lifeguard and Progressive Swim Instructor
