Job Summary
Carry out outdoor maintenance and repair of canal infrastructure, operate locks and bridges safely, and improve towpaths through repairs and litter removal. Deliver excellent customer service to visitors and boaters while working collaboratively with volunteers to achieve high-quality results. Plan and prepare for tasks, ensuring correct tools and materials are available, and uphold Canal & River Trust values in all activities. This role follows an annualised hours system including five days out of seven, with a 24-hour operational standby team providing emergency cover. Based at Lighterage Yard Depot, Northwich, with travel across the North West region. Full training provided for boat handling and asset operation.
Required Qualifications
- Full and current UK driving licence
- Basic literacy and numeracy
- Ability to work to schedules and plans effectively
- Basic IT skills – comfortable using mobile devices and apps
- 5 days out of 7
- Could be weekends and statutory holidays
- Part of a 24-hour operational standby team providing emergency cover
- Based at Lighterage Yard Depot, Chester Way, Northwich, CW9 5JJ
- Travel across the North West region
- Occasional support in other areas
