Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Job Summary
Operate and monitor wastewater and water treatment processes and equipment to ensure compliant plant operations. Perform routine inspections of pumps, motors, blowers, valves, tanks, chemical feed systems, and related equipment; monitor plant performance via SCADA and control interfaces; collect operational data and maintain logs and records; conduct process sampling and testing; troubleshoot issues and assist in identifying corrective actions. Support startup, testing, and commissioning activities for new equipment and treatment systems; assist in developing and implementing SOPs; maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment; ensure compliance with safety policies and environmental regulations; participate in operator training and continuing education; collaborate with project teams, engineers, contractors, and management to support plant operations. Must-have background includes high school diploma or GED, willingness/ability to obtain wastewater operator license, and prior experience with treatment facilities; strong troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Wastewater Operator License preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating wastewater treatment facilities, water treatment facilities, industrial process systems, or similar operations preferred
- Experience with pumps, motors, valves, blowers, chemical feed systems, and treatment processes preferred
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and computerized control systems
- Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, technical manuals, and process diagrams
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
