Job Summary
Water Treatment System Operator responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of water treatment systems supporting environmental remediation, mine water management, construction dewatering, and industrial wastewater treatment projects. Primarily field-based with travel across Ontario, including remote mine sites; perform routine operations, inspections, sampling, testing, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and reporting to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations. Responsibilities include operating filtration, clarification, chemical treatment, membrane and pumping systems; maintaining logs, coordinating with project managers and technical staff, responding to alarms and process upsets, and ensuring compliance with permits and project specifications. Requires strong communication, organizational skills, problem-solving, ability to work independently in remote conditions, and willingness to travel and work rotating schedules. Health and safety adherence, documentation, and client/regulator interactions are essential components, along with maintaining inventories and supporting commissioning, startup, shutdown, and demobilization activities.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Technology, Water/Wastewater Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Chemical Technology, or a related discipline
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
- 2–5 years of experience operating industrial, construction, mine water, or environmental water treatment systems
- Experience working in field environments and outdoor conditions
- Experience collecting environmental samples and maintaining operational records
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Technology, Water/Wastewater Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Chemical Technology, or related discipline
- Ontario Class G Driver's License
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
- Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, or Wastewater Treatment certifications (preferred)
- Environmental field operations experience (preferred)
- Basic Supervisor Training or equivalent (asset)
- Common mining-related training (asset)
- Confined Space Entry (asset)
- Working at Heights (asset)
- WHMIS (asset)
- TDG Certification (asset)
