Job Summary
Maintain safe and reliable operating conditions of all water treatment system equipment while performing routine chemistry analyses and adjustments to meet OEM standards. Monitor plant water chemistry programs and environmental effluents to optimize efficiencies and protect turbine components from scaling and corrosion. Operate reverse osmosis systems, filters, and clarifiers to satisfy power block water demand, and perform laboratory testing and troubleshooting for pumps, valves, and analyzers. Support maintenance personnel during outages, report abnormal conditions, and provide training guidance to operations staff. Follow a modified DuPont rotating 12-hour shift schedule with extended hours, weekends, and on-call availability.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field
- Equivalent military or industrial experience
- NAES Safe certification
- Post-offer physical examination
- Drug screening
- Post-employment random drug screening
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Ability to work from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights
- Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to enter confined spaces
- Ability to crawl through narrow areas
- Ability to handle hazardous materials
- Ability to work with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise
- Ability to work in high heat near equipment
- Ability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to wear protective equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection
- Ability to pass fit testing for respirators
- Adherence to all safety warnings and posted signs
- Adherence to all NAES safety rules and procedures
- Ability to remain mentally alert
- Proficiency in water chemistry analysis
- Proficiency in interpretation of results
- Proficiency in adjustment of chemical dosing
- Knowledge of water purification systems including clarifiers, reverse osmosis, ion exchangers, and other filtration technologies
- Familiarity with boiler and steam generation principles including closed-loop steam and condensate systems
- Ability to read and interpret piping diagrams
- Ability to read and interpret instrumentation schematics
- Ability to read and interpret process control documentation
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or other asset management tools
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times
- Must qualify as a power block auxiliary operator within one year of hire
