Water Resources Hydrogeologist/Engineer

Job Summary
Develop and implement hydrogeologic conceptual models, water balances, and numerical models to assess groundwater availability. Prepare reports and studies including groundwater sustainability plans, water supply assessments, urban water management plans, and water conservation programs. Assist with field investigations involving site visits, water level and quality data collection, well installation, and aquifer testing while adhering to safety policies. Prepare clear documents and presentations communicating complex technical issues. Support project managers with proposals, cost estimates, and progress reports. This role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or geology field with at least three years of hydrogeologist experience. Active professional licensure in Texas is preferred. The position is based in Houston or Austin, Texas, with occasional travel up to 20% for client meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a hydrogeologist or engineer for water resources projects
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to work while remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- Must be able to communicate and exchange information with others in person, on calls, and in virtual meetings
- Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for client meetings and site visits up to 20% of the time
- Must have a current valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred
- Active professional licensure or certification in Texas is preferred, including Professional Geoscientist (PG)
- Active professional licensure or certification in Texas is preferred, including Professional Engineer (PE)
- Active professional licensure or certification in Texas is preferred, including Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT)
- Active professional licensure or certification in Texas is preferred, including Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
- Technical knowledge in numerical groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW), water resources planning, groundwater availability investigations, data management and visualization, ArcGIS, and technical writing
- Proficiency with Python is preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with Texas groundwater regulations, water data sources, groundwater availability models, and regional water planning processes is preferred
- OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate and coordinate with EKI staff, clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, work independently, and collaborate with various project teams
- Demonstrated time management skills, strong work ethic, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and continuous learning
- Location: Ideally based in Houston, Texas or Austin, Texas
