Job Summary
Operate water pumping mechanisms, valves, and turbines to regulate flow and pressure of raw and processed water during assigned shifts. Monitor panel boards, adjust controls, and conduct water treatment activities including chemical addition for disinfection, deodorization, and clarification. Calibrate meters, collect samples for pH, D.O., and chlorine residual tests, and adjust process controls based on lab results. Maintain equipment, clean systems by backwashing, and perform housekeeping duties to ensure facility safety and aesthetic standards. Document readings, test results, and equipment adjustments into a computer database for record maintenance and reporting. This Class IV Water Operator role is based in Lanett, AL, and requires a valid water operator license or ability to obtain one within 12 months. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and work in confined spaces.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- College degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science
- Valid driver's license
- Valid WaterOperator License
- Ability to obtain required certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator within 12 months of hire date
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and stairways safely
- Must be able to pass a fit-test for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Ability to work in confined spaces
