Job Summary
Operate water pumping mechanisms, valves, and turbines to regulate flow and pressure of raw and processed water during assigned shifts. Monitor panel boards, adjust controls, and backwash systems at designated intervals. Conduct water treatment activities by adding chemicals to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water, while adjusting feed rates and changing chlorine cylinders. Calibrate meters, collect samples, and perform lab tests for pH, dissolved oxygen, and chlorine residual to make process control changes. Document readings, test results, and equipment adjustments in a computer database. Maintain facility housekeeping, including cleaning tanks, sweeping floors, cutting grass, and performing minor maintenance tasks on trucks and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- College degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science
- Valid driver's license
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and stairways safely
- Must be able to pass a fit-test for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Ability to work in confined spaces
Desired Qualifications
- Valid WaterOperator License preferred or ability to obtain required certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator within 12 months of hire date
