Job Summary
Install, maintain, flush, and repair water lines, storage systems, and fire hydrants while utilizing smart metering infrastructure and GIS mapping to track leaks. Safely operate heavy machinery including loaders, backhoes, and compactors, and manage work zone safety through Blue Stake markings and flagging. Respond to customer service calls to troubleshoot meter issues and communicate professionally with residents. Operate independently or mentor small crews depending on Level I or Level II designation. Handle 24-hour emergency on-call rotation with a full-time schedule. Requires valid Utah Class A CDL and Grade IV Distribution Water Operator certification.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- Valid Utah Driver's License
- Utah Class A CDL
- Grade IV Distribution Water Operator cert
- Flagger cert
- Must be 18 or older
- Pass a background check
- Pass a drug screen
- Pass a Human Performance Evaluation
- Provide a clean Utah driving record
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency & on-call rotation
- Must be able to lift up to 75-100 lbs occasionally
- Must be able to climb
- Must be able to follow instructions
- Must be able to write clear, simple work records
- Must be able to respond to customer service calls
- Must be able to troubleshoot meter issues
- Must be able to chat with residents in a polite, professional way
- Must be able to run Blue Stake markings
- Must be able to manage work zone safety (signalization, flagging)
- Must be able to safely operate loaders, backhoes, compactors, and specialized plumbing tools
- Must be able to install, maintain, flush, and repair water lines, storage systems, and fire hydrants
- Must be able to utilize advanced smart metering infrastructure and digital GIS mapping
- Must be able to track down leaks
- Must be able to manage work zone safety (signalization, flagging)
Desired Qualifications
- Background in construction, plumbing, or general labor
- Prior water system experience
- 4 years of related construction/plumbing experience
- At least 2 of those years deeply focused on water systems
- Ready to roll on day one with a Utah Class A CDL and Grade IV Distribution Water Operator certification
- Ready to obtain Cross Connection Administrator and Flagger certifications within 12 months
- Enjoy working outdoors in all of Utah's seasons (sun, rain, and snow)
- Love physical work (moving, lifting, climbing, staying active)
- Dependable enough to handle the 24-hour emergency on-call rotation
- Great communicator
- Handy
