Job Summary
Locates valves with electronic location equipment and uses a hydraulic valve operating machine to exercise valves; breaks out asphalt or concrete, and clears debris from valve boxes; maintains daily valve reports and records valve conditions and locations; coordinates shutdowns for contractors and emergencies; works with distribution operators and maintenance crews to ensure proper valve function; conducts system-wide flushing of hydrants and wash-out valves; informs the distribution department of significant valve operations and any potential system impact; trains or assists in training new hires; emphasizes safety in confined spaces and during street work, and handles public interactions and overtime duties.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Possession of a valid driver's license or driving privilege card
- Must pass Flagging certification course within 12 months
- Ability to operate light vehicles and hydraulic equipment
- Ability to lift valve covers and work safely in confined spaces
- Ability to interpret maps, charts, plats and similar information
