Job Summary
Water Distribution Operator I handles maintenance, inspection, installation, repair, and replacement within the City-owned water distribution system. Responsibilities include locating lines, valves, meters and appurtenances; testing equipment; preparing reports; installing and repairing hydrants, meters, taps, and waterlines; maintaining valves; calibrating meters; maintaining records; coordinating with Water Utility staff; following safety procedures; staying informed on policies and laws; and handling related documentation. Skill set emphasizes operating and controlling heavy equipment (backhoe/track hoe, skid steer, jack hammer, vacuum excavator, dump truck), data recording, mathematical calculations, communication with supervisors and public, and a willingness to participate in ongoing education and on-call work.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience in water distribution or construction field with prior equipment operation experience
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Georgia Water Distribution License
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within one year, Level 1A Certified in Soil and Erosion control, trenching and shoring certification, confined space entry supervisor training, GDOT flagger certification
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with satisfactory MVR (Class A CDL is preferred)
