Job Summary
Monitor, analyze, and adjust wastewater facility operations using SCADA, instrumentation, and sample testing to ensure compliance and efficiency. Train, lead, and mentor staff while acting as a positive role model for integrity and safety. Coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel, perform asset maintenance for treatment systems and lift stations, and maintain thorough operational logs. Troubleshoot equipment failures, respond to emergencies and scheduled shutdowns, and clean screenings, grit, and clarifiers. Monitor facility security, receive shipments, and verify documents. Assume direct supervisor responsibilities as required. Perform duties in a wastewater environment with irregular schedules and overtime.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class B Wastewater Treatment Operator's License
- minimum of three (3) years of experience in wastewater treatment or suitable relevant experience
- valid Texas Driver's License
- knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, compliance requirements, operations and maintenance requirements, and reporting/record keeping
- ability to troubleshoot wastewater equipment and processes and perform wastewater tests and interpret results
- ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
- basic computer skills
- electrical and mechanical knowledge
- ability to perceive/discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth and visual cues or signals
- visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle (including while towing portable equipment), equipment, hand tools, and a computer
- ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) that meet or exceed guidelines such as established by OSHA
- ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions with appropriate training
- ability to perform functions requiring manual dexterity and precision movements, continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements, grasping movements, and occasional forceful exertion
- ability to sit (up to 6 hours per day)

- ability to monitor, analyze, and adjust facility operations through observation, collecting and testing samples, reading instrumentation, and using SCADA
- ability to notify appropriate personnel of abnormal conditions, needed repairs and renewal
- ability to coordinate with maintenance personnel on repairs
- ability to plan, perform, and implement maintenance procedures for treatment assets and lift stations
- ability to maintain thorough logs and records in both written and electronic form
- ability to suggest and implement ideas to improve the function and efficiency of various operations
- ability to observe safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes and as prescribed by NTMWD
- ability to monitor the facility for any breaches of security and alert appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors
- ability to monitor systems and assets during emergencies and scheduled shutdowns
- ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and report problems
- ability to respond to emergencies
- ability to schedule and coordinate responses, repairs, clean-up, and remediation as directed
- ability to clean screenings and grit, clarifiers, filters, UV system, and other wastewater equipment and facilities
- ability to maintain facility grounds and perform general housekeeping
- ability to receive shipments, monitor unloading processes, check shipment documents for accuracy, and ensure documents are submitted to appropriate personnel
- ability to comply with applicable policies and procedures
- ability to assume the responsibilities of direct supervisor(s) and subordinates as required
