Job Summary
Monitor, analyze, and adjust facility operations through observation, sample testing, instrumentation reading, and SCADA to ensure compliant and efficient wastewater treatment. Plan and perform maintenance procedures for assets in headworks, liquids treatment, solids handling, and lift stations while coordinating repairs with maintenance personnel. Troubleshoot equipment problems, respond to emergencies and planned shutdowns, and maintain thorough logs to suggest operational improvements. Clean screenings, grit, clarifiers, filters, and UV systems; manage facility grounds and shipments. Observe safety policies and monitor for security breaches. Work irregular shifts with overtime as needed, driving a District vehicle and operating tools and machinery in a wastewater environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in wastewater treatment or a suitable combination of directly relevant education and experience
- Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator's License
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, compliance requirements, operations and maintenance requirements, and reporting/record keeping requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot wastewater equipment and processes and perform wastewater tests and interpret results
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
- Basic computer skills
- Electrical and mechanical knowledge
- Ability to perceive/discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth and visual cues or signals
- Visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle (including while towing portable equipment), equipment, hand tools, and a computer
- Physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) that meet or exceed guidelines such as established by OSHA
- Ability to perform functions requiring manual dexterity and precision movements, continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements, grasping movements, and occasional forceful exertion
- Ability to sit (up to 6 hours per day)
- Ability to perform frequent standing
- Ability to perform frequent walking
- Ability to perform light to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.)
- Ability to perform light carrying
- Ability to perform frequent bending and reaching
- Ability to perform keyboarding
- Ability to perform telephone operation
- Ability to work with chemicals, tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors
- Ability to moderate to heavy exposure to sun, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards
- Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions with appropriate training
- Ability to drive a District vehicle for business
- Ability to maintain a current, valid, and vehicle-appropriate driver's license of their resident state
- Ability to work with irregular work schedule and overtime hours
