Job Summary
Operate and maintain municipal wastewater treatment facilities, including pumps, valves, motors, belt presses, and disinfection systems; conduct routine sampling, testing, and system monitoring; accurately document data such as flows, chemical usage, and maintenance activities; diagnose and repair issues involving treatment equipment, instrumentation, and electrical systems; respond to after-hours callouts and participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation; ensure facility cleanliness, safety, and security; communicate with clients on routine operational matters; must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings; coordinate and support maintenance activities; require a high level of independence and reliability with strong attention to detail and safety.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Active Georgia Wastewater Operator License (appropriate to facility classification)
- Minimum 1 year of water/wastewater operations experience
- Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
- Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant operations
- Experience with mechanical equipment, pumps, motors, and basic electrical systems
- Ability to follow operating procedures, manuals, and safety protocols
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, data entry, reporting)
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to identify issues, troubleshoot efficiently, and escalate when necessary
- Self-directed with the ability to manage tasks independently
- Flexible and dependable with changing priorities and schedules
- Ability to lift and move 50–60 pounds regularly
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, walk frequently, and access confined spaces
