Job Summary

Supervise and direct maintenance operations, including inspection, repair, servicing, and preventative maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and systems to ensure reliability and optimal performance. Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities and projects, integrating work with wastewater facility operations and utilizing computerized work order systems. Lead skilled fabrication, modification, and installation of equipment based on technical drawings and specifications. Perform and direct quality control analysis, diagnostics, and corrective actions for equipment, instrumentation, and process control systems. Manage work-unit resources, including budgeting, procurement, inventory control, and coordination with warehousing functions. Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, enforce safety standards, and ensure compliance with hazardous material handling and personal protective equipment protocols. Monitor contractor performance, prepare cost estimates and technical documentation, and inspect completed work to ensure accountability.

Required Qualifications

  • Eight years of journey-level experience in the water and wastewater industry, INCLUDING two years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Five years of experience with Pima County in a Wastewater Heavy-Duty Maintenance Mechanic or related position, INCLUDING two years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Valid driver license at time of application
  • Valid AZ driver license at time of appointment
  • Corrected or sufficient vision; the ability to see, read, and interpret written information, manuals, gauges, etc., including distinguishing various colors
  • Corrected or sufficient hearing; the ability to hear and comprehend voice communications in-person, over a radio, and phone, and to hear operating equipment
  • Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to allow for standing, walking, sitting, grasping and manipulation of objects, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and ladders
  • Regular or occasional crawling, kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying objects up to fifty pounds, pushing and pulling of objects up to seventy-five pounds, and the ability to properly don and off fall protection to enter and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle, operate forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors
  • Ability to operate machinery, powered industrial equipment, and motor vehicles
  • Outdoor work, including during inclement and hot weather, working in confined spaces, working in high places, working with loud noises, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to waterborne pathogens/agents, hazardous materials and gases, water hazards and wet/slippery surfaces, odors, fumes, humidity, dirt, dust, traffic hazards, venomous pests, and electric arc flash potential

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with/knowledge of state and federal regulations, such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), process safety, hazard recognition, and safe work practices in an industrial setting
  • Minimum three (3) years experience operating and maintaining central plant systems, including digester gas systems, boilers, chillers, compressors, heat exchangers, flares, or other related components
  • Minimum two (2) years experience supervising employees, providing specialized and advanced maintenance, repair, diagnosis, or troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, on-the-job training, and preventative maintenance
  • Minimum (2) years experience using an industrial Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Maximo, Workday, or other related computerized systems
  • Direct experience reading and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID's), blueprints, as-builts, and SOP's
