Wastewater Facilities Operator in Training

Job Summary

Perform basic water and sewer line installations, repairs, and pressure checks while assisting with scheduled preventative maintenance, routine cleaning, and treatment system equipment repairs. Operate heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, cranes, and trenching machinery to backfill excavations per engineering specifications and restore sites with landscaping, concrete, and asphalt replacement. Turn water meters on and off, install meters, clear sewer lines, and clean lift station wet wells. Repair breaks, leaks, and defective lines, adjust manhole covers, and complete work orders and field complaint forms. Requires a Class 3 Distribution Operator License or ability to obtain one within a year, valid driver's license, and construction experience. Includes M-F 7 am to 5:30 pm shifts with rotating 24-hour after-hours emergency call-out duty on weekends and holidays.

  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class 3 Distribution Operator License or the ability to obtain within one (1) year
  • Ability to participate in weekly rotating after-hours call-out duty that requires prompt response on a 24-hour basis, including weekends and holidays

Desired Qualifications

  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a FDEP Class 2 Distribution Operator License
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a FWPCOA Class C Collections License
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a Class B Commercial Driver's License
