Job Summary
Supervise a crew of Youth Corps Members on public service conservation projects across urban, rural, and remote areas. Instruct members in natural resource protection, construction, landscaping, erosion control, and trail building while enforcing safety protocols and discipline. Operate heavy equipment, perform vehicle maintenance, and respond to emergencies including wildland fires, floods, and mudslides. Provide leadership mentorship, evaluate performance, and monitor educational attainment during day, night, and weekend shifts. Maintain equipment security, recordkeeping, and safety reports. Requires valid driver's license, First-Aid/CPR certification, and willingness to work in harsh outdoor conditions. Preference given to Native Americans.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years in a related field or education and experience
- Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of basic environmental terms
- Knowledge of the functions and structure of the Washoe Tribe
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels
- Ability to work under harsh weather and terrain conditions
- Ability to be sensitive to Tribal cultural needs of the communities in which the work is performed
- Fire Wildland Firefighting Training
- Arbor (including tree climbing, rope safety, knots, limbing)
- First-Aid and CPR/ AED Certification
- Chain Saw Training/S212 Certification
- Power Tools Safety and Operation
- Heavy Equipment Safety and Operation
- Chipper Safety and Operation
- Trail Construction and Maintenance
- Valid driver's license for either the State of Nevada or California
- Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe's driving policy
- Negative alcohol and drug screen
- Preference will be given to qualified Native Americans
