Job Summary
Design and develop manufacturing processes for forging or forming materials, including performing cost analysis and creating quotes for each project. Set up and operate equipment to shape heated metal stock into forgings on power hammers or presses using open dies, following work orders, diagrams, or specifications. Verify forging dimensions with measuring instruments and hand tools, and observe furnace colors to determine forging temperatures while signaling heaters to pull metal. May forge cold metal and develop or select tools and equipment based on cost and time restrictions. Candidates must be comfortable working with machines that generate heat around hot forgings and wear steel toe shoes.
