Job Summary
Strategic Legal & Compliance leadership role for MAC in North America, overseeing the Legal and Compliance Team, providing guidance on complex commercial transactions, litigation/arbitration, regulatory matters, and cross-functional collaboration with senior management; accountable for developing and maintaining corporate compliance programs, managing significant transactions (including M&A) from inception to close, and ensuring adherence to global trade regimes, with required fluency in Japanese for interaction with Japanese rotational staff.
Required Qualifications
- Member in good standing of the New York State bar.
- Experience managing litigation and arbitration, regulatory and corporate compliance matters.
- Extensive experience with commercial law and regulations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico (e.g., FCPA, CFTC).
- Knowledge of world trade regimes and documentary requirements.
- High level of communication and drafting skills.
- Business proficiency in verbal and written Japanese for understanding and analyzing internal documents and legal/compliance issues with Japanese staff.
- Tokyo Training: initial training at the Tokyo Legal Department (MC Legal) for at least three months (duration may be adjusted based on experience).
- 15+ years of international commercial and complex corporate transactions experience including mergers & acquisitions and divestiture transactions.
