VOLUNTEER SERVICES SPECIALIST

Job Summary
Coordinate volunteer assignments, maintain files, and ensure mandatory paperwork is current for the Columbus Hospice volunteer department. Create flyers and newsletters, oversee food bank access records, and assist the VP of Business Development with fundraisers and special events. Direct volunteers to ensure satisfactory completion of duties while managing follow-up communication with patients and families. Respond to inquiries from clients and the public, attend IDG meetings, and document involvement in the EMR system. Maintain contact with volunteers through cards, phone calls, and training support, including birthday and anniversary outreach.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
- One year related experience and/or training
- Influenza vaccine during influenza season (Nov. – March)
- Valid drivers' license with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Auto insurance per company policy
- Reliable personal transportation
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to respond to questions from clients, volunteers, and the general public
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to speak professionally to patients, physicians and others in the organization via telephone and personal communication
- Must be skilled at prioritizing tasks
- Ability to multi-task and deal with frequent interruptions
- May deal with emotionally distraught families. Interactions with terminally ill patients
- Requirement to maintain professional appearance and communication at all times
- Evening and weekend hours may be required
- Contact patient family member within 3 working days
- Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice
- Supervises and directs volunteers with assignments to ensure satisfactory completion of duties
- Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job
- When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor
- Participate in staff development (15 hours of CEUs) annually
- Assist with special projects, as requested
- All other job duties as may be assigned
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
- The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside-weather conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
