Job Summary
Provide 2-4 counselling sessions weekly between 9am and 4pm to children and young people navigating terminal illness or bereavement. Listen actively, recognize individual needs, agree on goals, and maintain accurate session records per hospice procedures. Share relevant updates with the Bereavement team and consult your Volunteer Manager regarding record-keeping protocols. This role requires a qualified counsellor aged 18 or over to support young individuals through grief, explore emotions, and build resilience during life-altering moments at Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford.
Required Qualifications
- Aged 18 or over
- Qualified in Counselling
- Availability: 3 hours per week on weekdays
- Time: Between 9am-4pm
- Provide 2-4 counselling sessions per week
- Offer counselling support to children and young people affected by terminal illness or bereavement
- Listen actively and empathetically to those experiencing loss
- Recognise individual needs, agree goals, review progress and maintain accurate records of sessions in line with Marie Curie procedures
- Share relevant updates with the Bereavement team
- Follow hospice record-keeping protocols and consult or share appropriate information to your Volunteer Manager
- Qualified in counselling or in final year of study
- Caring and compassionate nature with excellent listening skills
- Experience with children and young people, and the composition to meet them where they are
- Empathetic and skilled at supporting young people through grief and loss
- Respect for confidentiality, boundaries and ethical practices
- Committed to accurate record-keeping
- Reliable and committed to providing high-quality care
- Open to learning and development to make a lasting difference
- Team spirit - contributing to a positive team dynamic whilst being actively independent in the role
