Job Summary
Pull, terminate, and splice cables; install telecommunications equipment, switches, and routers; and configure, maintain, and fix data network and telephony systems. Operate, oversee, and service multiple communications devices while evaluating and testing voice and data network infrastructure. Read blueprints, coordinate with contractors, and perform maintenance, evaluation, repair, and upgrades of commercial structured cabling systems including copper and fiber optic infrastructure. Install cable pathway systems and route horizontal cabling in accordance with industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite
- Awareness of spanning tree functions
- Basic knowledge of practically applying engineering science and technology
- Valid Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License where applicable
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Ability to read, interpret and follow project blueprints, diagrams, specifications, schematics and plans
- Ability to safely work on ladders and lifts
- Ability to climb vertical ladders, work at heights and be proficient in the use of common hand and power tools
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to navigate around job site locations
- Must have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors and suppliers, and other contractor organizations
- Ability to safely and effectively utilize hand tools, power tools and industry tools and test equipment
