Job Summary
Vocational Specialist provides counseling, vocational assistance and employment services to youth referred by the Department of Probation in Suffolk County, aiming for economic self-sufficiency. Responsibilities include helping clients identify education and career plans, networking with employers for employment resources, conducting follow-up counseling, coordinating services with vocational agencies (ACCESS/VR, DOL, One-Stop), administering aptitude and interest tests, maintaining client records, consulting with family/school/community, and transporting clients as needed. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, at least one year of relevant career counseling experience, proficiency with standard computer applications, and a valid NY driver’s license. Schedule is part-time (up to 18 hours/week) with flexible afternoons/evenings; location is Central Islip, NY, with hybrid remote options.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or approved related human services field
- Minimum of one year of career counseling experience with individuals with a history of mental health and alcohol/substance abuse problems
- Proficiency in computer applications or other automated systems (spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, calendar, email and/or database software)
- Access to a car and a valid New York State Driver's License
